The complete 2026 cheat sheet: Facebook, Twitter/X, LinkedIn, Instagram, Slack, Discord, and WhatsApp. All dimensions, aspect ratios, and file limits in one place.
Every social platform has its own image requirements. Getting them wrong means cropped, blurry, or missing previews. The good news? One size works almost everywhere.
The short answer: 1200 × 630 pixels
This single size works for link previews on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Slack, Discord, and WhatsApp. Generate one at 1200x630, set it as your og:image, and you're done.

Tablet
Images show at near-full dimensions. The 1.91:1 ratio displays cleanly without cropping.
Desktop
Link previews cap at ~500px wide. Text should be legible at half resolution. Avoid thin fonts below 32px.
Best Practices for Social Images
Use 1200x630px — it's the universal standard that works across all platforms
Keep file size under 1MB for fast loading (WhatsApp has a 300KB limit)
Use high contrast text — white on dark backgrounds or dark on light
Keep critical content in the center 60% of the image to survive cropping
Use PNG for text-heavy images (sharper), JPG for photo-based images
Test with the Twitter Card Validator and Facebook Sharing Debugger before publishing
Include your logo or brand mark — it builds recognition across shares
